One Off
Haruno Shiozaki counts down the days to her sixteenth birthday, because that is when she can finally get a motorcycle license. In her tiny mountain town, that piece of paper is the only real event on the calendar. She tools around on her moped with her friends, and the days are slow and warm and mostly the same. Then her family's inn takes on a seasonal worker: Cynthia B. Rogers, a young traveler from abroad with a voice that fills every room. The whole town perks up. Haruno's friends trail after her, laughing at everything she says. Haruno hangs back and starts turning something over. Can a person from a place this small actually have a dream? And if the answer is yes, is it the dream she has been carrying, or a different one she has not admitted yet?
