Cocoa gets a letter from her sister Mocha asking her to come home, so she heads back to the mountains to see her family for the first time in ages. That leaves the girls at Rabbit House without their ringleader for a whole week. The town feels quieter. Bluer. Chino in particular keeps glancing at the door. Then word gets around about the fireworks festival, and Chino has her heart set on watching it with Cocoa and everyone else, exactly the way they always have. But a week is a long time, and Cocoa is up in the mountains getting to know her loud, chaotic sister and her equally loud mother all over again. Homesick and missing her friends, Cocoa decides to cut the visit short and race back. Trains, timing, a festival that will not wait for anybody: can she actually make it before the first shell goes up?
