The flames were already licking the rafters at Honnouji when Nobunaga, cornered beside a statue of Buddha, let one thought slip: for a life like his, maybe a dog is all he deserves. Somebody up there must have found that funny. He wakes up in present day Japan as Shinamon, a shiba inu with a family that scratches his belly and a leash with his name on it. It gets stranger. Other Sengoku warlords start showing up at the dog park, and they remember everything too. Fierce men who once commanded armies, now sniffing butts and chasing their own tails. The battles are over. The instincts are not. Digging holes is somehow the best thing ever, and belly rubs are worth more than any castle. So the conqueror of Japan spends his days squabbling with old rivals over chew toys and trying not to embarrass himself in front of the humans, who have no idea who any of these dogs really are. A joke from the gods, or karma working overtime? Either way, when Shingen trots over for another round, who exactly is walking whom?
