A year has passed since Miaka and Tamahome walked out of the book and into a normal life together. School, chores, hanging out. Almost boring, and they earned every quiet minute of it. Then they visit the graves of the two girls who never made it out of the Universe of the Four Gods, and a red light swallows Tamahome where he stands. Gone. Just like that, right in front of her. Keisuke and his friend Tetsuya watch the whole thing and have no idea what they saw, but they are not about to leave Miaka sitting there alone. They start digging for answers while Yui makes her own choice: she goes back into the book. Tamahome, meanwhile, lands somewhere he does not recognize, and fifty years have passed since he left. Strangers treat him like someone he is not. Somehow he is wearing the face of Nakago, the man he once fought. Miaka can barely hold herself together. Can two people get back to each other across that much time, or is the story done with them for good?
