Arthur Louis Zetes has money, power, and a very long list of people who want him dead. Flattery won't save him. Loyalty won't either. So he orders a robot maid: no feelings, no lies, just flawless service. His butler Roy delivers Marie, who never blinks, never smiles, and moves like clockwork. She's perfect. She's also a human being. The tech to build a real robot like her doesn't exist yet. Marie is a martial arts prodigy drowning in debt, and playing a machine pays better than anything else she can find. One slip, one flicker of emotion, and the whole act falls apart. Arthur hates being lied to more than he hates being attacked, and Marie has to serve him breakfast every morning without cracking. The weird part is that the cold, suspicious billionaire starts treating her less like a gadget and more like someone he actually cares about. She, meanwhile, has never had anyone look at her without wanting something. Neither of them says a word about it. How long can a person keep pretending to be metal before the warmth underneath gives her away?
