The Tang Dynasty is falling apart. An Lushan's rebels are burning everything in their path, monsters have crawled out of the woodwork, and the Central Plains are nothing but hungry, desperate people. Li Haobai leaves Bashu with one plan: reach the front lines, earn some glory, maybe survive. On the road, something with teeth swallows him whole. That should be the end of it. Instead, he comes out the other side fused with the guardian of the dragon veins, carrying the black dragon's power in his own body. Now every faction with a claim on that power wants a piece of him. There is also Zhang Gong, a small herb gatherer from Mount Shu who stumbles onto an immortal beheading a monster and gets dragged into the same mess, only to learn his own origins are not what he thought. Two nobodies, one war between monsters and demons, and three worlds about to tear each other apart. Li Haobai wanted a merit badge. What does he do now that he is the prize everyone is hunting?
