Every year Rikkyouin High draws names from a box to fill next year's Student Council, and this time the lottery hands the top jobs to two kids who just walked through the gate. Chihiro Enomoto gets president. His childhood friend Tokino Akiyama, who has never met a lucky break she could not catch, pulls vice president. Sounds like a dream start. Here is the catch. Before they can hold those seats they have to survive a full year as apprentices under the current Council, and one missed task, one tiny slip, gets all of them thrown out of school. The rest of the incoming crew is no safer: Renko Kamishakuji builds impossible machines and explodes at anyone who mentions her height, while shy little Koyuki Asagiri is not nearly as ordinary as she looks. Chihiro himself has been unlucky since the day his parents died, and now he is babysat both by the Council and by his own sister Shinobu, a teacher at the school who is far too fond of him. One failed chore and the whole year ends in disgrace. So what exactly does the current president want from four students who were chosen at random?
