Kekkaishi
Yoshimori Sumimura just wants to bake. Cakes, mostly. He's fourteen, he's got school, and he's also the heir to a family of barrier makers who've guarded the same patch of ground for centuries. That patch happens to be Karasumori, the land his high school sits on, and at night it pulls in ayakashi like a porch light pulls in moths. The spirits soak up the power there and get big and mean fast. So while his classmates sleep, Yoshimori is out throwing up glowing walls and crushing things that shouldn't exist. Here's the wrinkle: he isn't alone, and he isn't supposed to be. Tokine Yukimura lives next door, she's sixteen, and her family has guarded Karasumori just as long as his. Two clans, one ancestor, endless squabbling over who's the real heir. They bicker, they compete, and they still fight back to back because the ayakashi never come one at a time. They come in waves. And somewhere in the dark, someone else is watching all of this, waiting for the right moment to move in. By day they're just students. By night they're the only thing standing between their town and whatever crawls out of the shadows. So who exactly is waiting for the barrier to fall?
