The demon king is dead, and nobody knows who killed him. That should be good news. It isn't. Without a tyrant holding the world down, every monster, warlord and stranger from another reality starts clawing toward the empty throne, and the whole thing turns into a bloody audition for the title of strongest. Soujirou Yagyuu is one of those hopefuls. A swordsman with a blade and not much else, he walks into the New Principality of Lithia to claim the crown for himself. He brings along Yuno, a girl he pulled out of the rubble after golems flattened her city. Meanwhile the kingdom of Aureatia quietly pays bandits to strangle Lithia's trade routes, and the founder of Lithia has had enough. He sends a thief named Dakai to find out who is behind it. One war is already smoldering. When it finally catches, which of these killers for hire will still be standing, and who gets the throne everyone is bleeding for?
