Michi Sonoda drops the news on her teammate Sanae between practice and the walk home: after middle school, she's done with judo. Forever. Sanae just stares at her. Judo was Michi's idea in the first place, Michi's fire that dragged Sanae onto the mat. Now Michi shrugs and says youth is for boyfriends and cute dates, not for sweaty tatami and sore shoulders. Then the tournament happens, and it goes wrong. Michi gets thrown, hard and fast, by a girl named Towa Hiura, and the loss stings in a way she didn't expect. It gets worse. First day of high school, same gym, same locker room: Towa is there, and she's not going anywhere. So now Michi has to sit with it. She came to high school ready to be a normal girl with a normal life, and instead she keeps drifting back to the edge of the mat, watching. Is she really finished with judo, or was she only ever running from how much she still wants it?
