Project D has chewed through Tochigi, Saitama and Ibaraki, and now Ryousuke points the team at Kanagawa, the holy land of street racing. Takumi and Keisuke roll in expecting another stretch of mountain passes. What waits for them is a trap: the three strongest teams of Kanagawa have already sat down together and drawn up a plan called the Four Lines of Defense, built for one purpose, to bury Project D for good. Every line is a different kind of ambush, and each one is meant to strip away something the team cannot get back. Takumi is not helping his own case. His last win against Toshiya Joushima was a scrap he barely pulled out, and he knows it. So he starts picking apart his own driving, chasing a flaw he can feel but cannot name, while the whole of Gunma watches and waits for the results.
