Houtarou Oreki had big plans for his day off. Those plans were lying on his floor, staring at the ceiling, doing absolutely nothing. Then his sister Tomoe showed up and handed him a whistle and a lifeguard shirt. The local pool, his shift, no arguing. Of course the Classics Club picked that exact afternoon to go swimming. Satoshi and Mayaka splash around, Ibara does her thing, and for once Oreki thinks he might actually get some peace. Then Eru Chitanda spots a white object sitting on a woman's ear. She looks away. She looks back. Gone. Nobody else saw it, nobody else cares, and Chitanda's eyes are already doing that thing they do. Now a lazy boy who came here to nap has to figure out where a tiny white thing vanished to, in a crowded pool full of wet people and moving water. The others get dragged along, half amused, half annoyed. Was it really ever there, or did Chitanda just give them all homework on their day off?
