Gran and Vyrn live on Zinkenstill, an island full of secrets, where the sky stretches forever and islands drift like clouds. Vyrn is a winged lizard. He talks. Then one day the two of them run into Lyria, a girl on the run, and everything changes fast. She has escaped from the Erste Empire, a military power that wants to control the whole sky with brute force. Now soldiers are hunting her, and Gran is standing between them and her. He and Lyria take off into the open sky with only one clue to guide them: a letter his father left behind, saying he will be waiting at Estalucia, the Island of Stars. The Empire is not going to let them go quietly, and the skies are not exactly friendly either. Can a boy, a talking lizard and a runaway girl really outrun an entire empire?
