The richest people on Midorijima never see the slums below. Toue Inc. bought the island, walled off a gleaming Platinum Jail for the wealthy, and pushed everyone else into the Old Residential District. Out there, gangs settle turf wars with Rib, and kids jack into Rhyme, a virtual fighting game where your All-Mate does the swinging. Aoba Seragaki wants none of it. He stocks shelves at a secondhand shop, looks after his grandmother, keeps Ren close, and ignores the crews that keep asking. Then men grab him and throw him into a Rhyme match he never signed up for. Around the same time, Rib players start vanishing, just rumors at first, then names he knows. Now every quiet day he had is gone. He has to step into the middle of whatever is swallowing people off the streets and still come out as himself. What exactly is waiting at the center of it all, and how much of Aoba will be left when he finds it?
