Binchou-tan

A tiny girl named Binchou-tan wakes up alone in a shabby house up in the mountains. Torn bedding, one kimono to her name, no parents, nobody at all. She cooks her own breakfast, trudges into the forest for vegetables, and heads down to work in town, because a kid living by herself still has to eat. Every day looks the same, and every day she gets through it. Then the loneliness cracks. Friends start showing up, other little characters who fill her quiet routine with noise and warmth. The chores, the long walks, the empty evenings: none of it disappears. Hard reality is still waiting at the door, and a small girl with no family has to hold her own against it. What does it take for someone that small to keep going, day after day, when the only thing standing between her and the cold is her own two hands?
