Fate Graphite guards a gate all day and goes home hungry every night. That's his skill, Gluttony: it feeds him nothing and leaves him starving while the holy knights kick him around like a stray dog. Then a wounded thief tries to slip past him, and Fate kills the man. Something inside him wakes up and swallows everything the corpse had: its soul, its points, its skills. Now he's stronger, and hungrier. The knight Roxy Hart, the one decent person in this city, offers him a job, and a talking sword called Greed starts whispering in his ear that Gluttony is forbidden for a reason, that it breaks the rules the world runs on. So Fate spends his days keeping up appearances and his nights out hunting monsters, feeding the thing inside him before it turns on him. He kills to stay sane. He stays sane to keep the life he finally has. Greed doesn't say what happens when the hunger outgrows the supply. How long can a man keep feeding a mouth that never closes?
