A boy swims out of the dark water and collapses on the beach of Southern Cross Isle. Takuto, no boat, no luggage, nothing but the tide behind him. By morning he is just another freshman at the local high school, trading nods with classmates who have no idea where he came from. Then the island shows its other face. Behind the ordinary school days something far stranger is running, and the quiet transfer student turns out to sit right at the center of it. There is a giant machine waiting for him, and a girl whose fate seems tangled up with his own. Takuto finds friends, finds a fight, and finds that the place he washed up on is not the sleepy island it pretends to be. So who was really waiting for him on that shore, and what does the island want with a boy who arrived from nowhere?
