The old squad broke up years ago. Ryo traded his armor for a rocket lab, Anise stayed by his side, and Chuck pinned on a badge and walked a beat. Quiet lives. Then the dead start walking. A swarm of corpses tears through the city, killing anything that moves, and the only three people who can stop it are the ones who swore they were done fighting. Ryo still has the bio-enhanced body. Chuck still has the aim. Anise has nothing but the two of them and the fear that this time nobody comes home. Rain falls through the whole thing, on the streets, on the bodies, on the three of them standing in it. They were built to fight monsters. They were not built to bury each other. So when the shooting starts and the rain will not stop, which one of them walks away?
