The Star Bearers, the elite crew running the children's wing, watch their every move, and the ways they keep everyone loyal are not pretty. So Kate sets her sights higher: become a Star Bearer herself. Trust no one, climb the ranks, get out from under their eyes. Then someone in a robe starts wandering the halls. Master Robe, they call the figure. At first nobody takes it seriously. Then incidents pile up, and the dolls start dying. Kate volunteers to crack the case, mostly to polish her own name, but the clues barely add up and half the mansion looks guilty. Every shadow in this place has a face standing right beside it, wiping away the soot. So why is someone sneaking through the children's wing targeting the dolls, and what happens when Kate gets close enough to find out?
