Sakura Mamiya vanished in the woods behind her grandmother's house as a kid. She came back fine. Ever since, she sees ghosts, and she'd give anything for them to just leave her alone. Then one day the desk next to hers, empty since the start of term, finally has someone in it. Only Sakura can see him. She figures he's a ghost, obviously. Next morning he walks in like nothing happened. Rinne Rokudou isn't dead, he's broke, and he spends his nights helping spirits move on, which pays almost nothing. Lunch money goes to exorcism tools instead of food. His uniform is threadbare. He's the last person at school who should be hauling the dead around, and yet here he is, and now Sakura is stuck seeing everything he deals with. She never asked for any of this. But she's the only one who can watch what he does, and once you've seen it, ignoring it isn't really an option. So what exactly did those woods do to her all those years ago?
