A mystic jewel called Hojous yanks five girls out of their ordinary lives and drops them at the tail end of the Edo period. Yui Tsukishima is one of them. The previous Tennyo is dead, cut down in a fight, and somebody has to take her place. So the girls inherit the job, along with powers they barely understand and a weapon stranger than any sword: the Power of Word. Two demon brothers want to wipe out humankind, and these five are the only ones standing in their way. Then a man named Utamaru Katsura walks in. He is a rakugo storyteller, a real one, and he has his own battle to fight. What he wants is simple enough. He wants to turn Yui, who grins through everything and takes nothing seriously, into a proper professional of the rakugo art. So now she has demons on one side and a stage on the other, and honestly, the stage might be the harder one. Can a girl who laughs at everything learn to hold a room with nothing but a cushion and a punchline before the demons finish what they started?
