A boy from Pallet Town gets handed a Pokémon and a pocket encyclopedia, and that should be the whole story. Red is cheerful, a little naive, and convinced he can catalog every creature in Kanto. Professor Ookido gives his own grandson Green the same start. Green is loud, proud, and not about to let some kid from the same small town beat him to it. Then the real trouble shows up. Team Rocket is out there snatching Pokémon for reasons that have nothing to do with research or badges, and Red keeps running into them between gym battles. Every leader he beats, every creature he catches, every scrap with Green pushes him closer to the Pokémon League and the Elite Four. But the criminals are not waiting politely on the sidelines. Somewhere between the gyms and the gang hideouts, Red starts to figure out that filling a database was never the point. So what happens when a kid who just wanted to see the world runs into people who want to own it?
