Inori Yuitsuka barely knew how to stand on the ice when Tsukasa Akeuraji, a coach with no real reputation, decided to take her on. People laughed at the pair. Too late, they said. She kept skating anyway, and the qualifying badge test is behind her now. Next stop: the Chubu Block Tournament, fifteen girls, five tickets to the All Japan Novice competition. Most of them have already been here before. Here is the twist. Hikaru Kamisaki, the prodigy everyone is chasing, is not in this block at all. Six spots lead onward, and one of them is hers. So the fight is really for the five that remain, and every skater in the rink knows exactly what that means. Inori has to get through a field of rivals who all see the same opening. She promised Tsukasa she would reach Hikaru and stand with her at the Olympics. A promise like that does not care how crowded the ice is. The bigger the wall in front of her, the harder she pushes against it. Doubt from the crowd, doubt from other coaches, none of it slows her down. Each new tournament throws her in with athletes who want the same thing she does, and she watches them all, dazzled, taking notes. But when the scores are called and the standings go up, only five names move on. Will Inori be one of them?
