The year is Meiji 38. The war with Russia drags on, and the brass need something new. So they bring back the Raimu Squad. Five girls. School uniforms, crushes, gossip after class. Ordinary in every way except for the Raimu they carry inside them. Then a young man named Inukai Tsuyoshiro gets handed the job of leading them. He wants glory for Japan, and he wants it badly. Except the girls are not soldiers. They still have homework and feelings and a habit of talking back, and the thing living in each of them does not care about rank. Tsuyoshiro barks orders. They ignore him. He dreams of a great battle while they bicker over who gets to sit next to him, and somewhere in all of it, the real fighting starts. What none of them say out loud is that the squad was rebuilt for a reason nobody explained. Are the five of them the weapon, or the bait?
