Episode 2 · Kaze no Yojimbo

Kaze no Yojimbo

George Kodama steps off the train at Kimujuku looking for one man, Genzo Araki. What he finds is a town that shuts its doors the moment he asks questions. Shopkeepers go quiet. Eyes follow him down the street. Somebody makes it clear, politely at first, that he should be on the next train out. Then he stays anyway. Two gangs run these streets, and their turf war is old enough that nobody remembers how it started. Behind the shuttered storefronts sits something worse than a feud: a past the whole town has agreed to bury. George starts pulling at the loose threads, one by one, and the town pulls back harder each time. He isn't a cop. He isn't a hero. He's a stranger with a question, and that's enough to make him dangerous. So what exactly is Kimujuku hiding, and why is everyone so afraid of a man who may not even be alive?
