Kikuru Madan is the best guard in Mebuki. He has spent his whole life training, and one morning he looks around and realizes his youth is basically gone. So he tells the guild he wants out. Enome, the receptionist, has other plans: before you go, train a replacement. Fine. One recruit. He gets four. Hitamu, a beastwoman who trips over her own feet. Maidena, a prodigy with an attitude. Toxico, who cannot be bothered. Hanabata, sturdy as a wall and somehow always in the wrong place when clothes come off. Together they are a disaster that happens to have talent. Meanwhile the monsters outside the walls have developed a taste for women, and not in a friendly way. Every job turns into a chase, a rescue, or both, and Kikuru's early retirement slips further away with each outing. He keeps saying he is done. He keeps showing up anyway. Can a man who never learned to relax actually walk away, or does this town have other plans for him?
