Saya Otonashi is just a normal schoolgirl in Okinawa. Adopted family, quiet routine, a touch of anemia. The only odd thing is her memory: it stops a year back, like someone hit erase. Then one night at school, something that drinks human blood comes for her. A man named Haji shows up and holds it off, but he does not just save her. He makes her drink his blood. Saya goes blank, cuts the creature down without breaking a sweat, her own blood doing the work. Turns out there is a whole war underneath her quiet life, and it has been running for centuries. Monsters called chiropterans can look human, never die, and feed on the living. An outfit named Red Shield exists for one reason: to hunt them down. Saya gets pulled into that fight with Haji at her side, and every battle drags a little more of her missing past into the light. What she finds there is not pretty. Red Shield wants the monsters gone, but they also want to know what Saya is, and Haji is not telling everything either. So who was she before the last year, and why does her blood know exactly how to kill?
