Takuya Isurugi lands at Iruma Air Base expecting a quiet job turning wrenches on fighter jets. What he gets is the 801st Tactical Training Squadron, an acrobatic team flown entirely by women. There is Mitsuru Konishi, the captain, who runs the place like she is daring anyone to argue. Around her: a karaoke addict who funds her habits by gambling, a girl who treats junk food as a food group, and two pilots who cannot stand each other. Then Isurugi shows up, and Miyuki Haneda and Arisa Mitaka both start angling for the same new mechanic. The rivalry goes from bad to worse, and the two of them are already the reason the Airbats fly in a lopsided mess half the time. He just wants to fix engines. Now he is the reason two fighter pilots are fighting in the hangar. The whole JASDF is watching, and most of it has written the team off. If the Airbats cannot pull together, the squadron gets shut down for good. Can a mechanic with a thing for anime keep two rival pilots from tearing the 801st apart before the brass does it for them?
