A book of the gods sits in the Imperial Palace, and it teaches whoever holds it how to forge weapons that can wipe out anything. That's the legend, anyway. Then the Mongols tore through the central plains, the book vanished, and it turned up in the hands of outlaws who realized the old story was true. When the Ming took back the throne, the book went home to the palace. The thieves never forgot it. Three of the most notorious robbers in the outlaw world pick the ghost festival to break in, each angling to outdo the others, and the monk called Hell-fire walks away with the prize. Now the emperor wants it back. He turns to the Imperial Guards, his bodyguards and spies, and hands the job to Yuan Xiaotang, a young recruit with more nerve than experience. Can a rookie guard track down three legendary thieves and recover a book that entire criminal networks would kill for?
