May 2018. V-Jump drops a promo anime for Dragon Ball Heroes, the arcade card game that kids in Japan have been feeding coins into for years. This one never aimed for a TV slot. It was built short, made to push the game, and the first episode showed up on July 1, 2018, inside a shopping mall at Aeon Lake Town. So the strangest Dragon Ball story in years started on a screen in a mall. Then the twist: this promo thing did not stay in its lane. It went and adapted the Prison Planet arc from the game, then pulled in Big Bang Mission and Ultra God Mission from the Heroes manga running in Saikyou Jump. Two separate canons, both stuffed into one anime, and neither of those manga arcs ever got an official English release. So now there is a whole chunk of Dragon Ball lore that plays out on a promo series, in two canons at once, while the card game and its Switch port live on the other side of the same story. Who exactly is this for, and how much of it counts?
