In the land of Kuruda, fighters mix magic with their fists, and the best of them earns the title of Sevaar. Elle Ragu has just claimed that title, the youngest ever to wear it, and you would think the hard part is over. It isn't. Not even close. Between training her little brother Gau to survive his first real fight, dodging blades sent by rival kingdoms, and standing between Kuruda and whoever wants to burn it down, Elle has a mountain of small, stupid problems. Chief among them: her bar tab. Assassins she can handle. Creditors are another story. And while she drinks and jokes her way through each day, something far worse is gathering on the borders, silent and patient. Gau wants to be strong like his sister. Elle wants a quiet evening and someone else to pay for it. Neither is going to get what they want, not with the whole kingdom holding its breath. Can the strongest warrior in Kuruda even keep her own household standing before the real storm hits?
