Every four years the strongest women in the land fight for one prize: the throne. Weapons, spells, anything goes, and the whole country watches the bouts through magic mirrors. Leina slips away from her noble family to enter, sure she is ready. She is not. Her first real opponent wipes the floor with her, and only a wandering thief named Risty drags her out alive. Here is the thanks Risty gets: a cell. Leina's scheming relatives lock her savior up while Leina is hauled back to the castle, where her sisters wait, angrier and far more dangerous. So she bolts again, this time to earn the right to wear her mother's armor, and every fight from here hits harder than the last. Witches, priestesses, hired killers, elves, ghosts and even angels are all heading for the same arena. Can a runaway noble survive a tournament where losing costs more than pride?
