Nan-young was just a kid when her mom's Mars mission went wrong and the astronaut never came home. She grew up staring at the same sky, became a scientist, and quietly aimed herself at the same red dot. Then the selection letter arrives. She's going to Mars. Before launch, a broken old turntable gets in the way. It belonged to her mother. The guy who agrees to fix it is Jay, a musician who spends his days elbow deep in vintage sound gear, and something about him makes the countdown feel heavier than it should. She has spent her whole life chasing a ghost across millions of miles. Now there's a reason to stay. The launch date doesn't move. Mars is still out there, and so is whatever is left of her mom. Jay keeps repairing the turntable, she keeps packing, and neither of them says the obvious thing out loud. What do you do when the person who finally makes Earth feel like home shows up right before you leave it?
