Episode 2 · Immortality

Immortality

He was born a household slave, somebody else's property, and he decided early on that he would rather beg in the streets than wear those chains a day longer. So Fang Han walked out alone. No master, no army, no rich family behind him, just a stubborn streak that would not bend no matter how badly the world tried to break it. And somewhere out there he found what nobody expected a slave to find: the secret of supernatural power, and a way to hammer his own body into something that death could not touch. That is exactly the problem. The path to immortality is crowded with people who were born into it, who already own the techniques, the pills, the masters and the soldiers. They do not want some runaway servant climbing up beside them. He has to fight for every scrap of progress, step by step, while the ones at the top keep trying to crush him back down into the dirt he came from. Can a man with nothing but his own two hands really claw his way to the top of the immortal world, or is the ladder built so only the ones already standing on it can climb?
