Kimura has spent five years in the ring watching everybody else get their moment. Ippo has a belt. Takamura has a belt. And Kimura? Still nothing to show for it, and it's starting to eat at him. Then the call comes: a shot at the Junior Lightweight title against Ryo Mashiba, the champion nobody wants to face. Here's the problem. Mashiba fights like a man swinging a scythe, all reach and elbows, and Kimura is a boxer who likes to work from the outside. So he does something strange: he asks Ichirou Miyata for help, the same Miyata Mashiba already destroyed. Kimura trains like his whole career depends on it. It does. Mashiba, meanwhile, has a world title shot waiting for him, but only if he gets past Kimura first, and that paycheck is what keeps his sister Kumi taken care of. Two men, nothing left to hold back, each one convinced he cannot lose. The bell is about to ring. So who walks out of that ring with the belt?
