Ippo Makunouchi finally has the belt. Japan's featherweight champion, living the good life: his friends and coach are behind him, and Kumi Mashiba actually seems happy to hang out with him. Then his first title defense gets scheduled, and the guy across the ring is Kazuki Sanada. A doctor. Same hospital as Kumi. He reads bodies like textbooks and turns that knowledge into punches, which is bad enough. The nurses adore him, and he is clearly not indifferent to Kumi, so now the fight is about two belts at once. Dankichi Hama, the Mexican trainer who once stood against Kamogawa, is the one prepping Sanada for this. Former champion, med student, tactical brain, and a rival for Kumi's attention. Ippo has everything to lose and no idea how deep the trouble goes. Can the new champion hold his title when the challenger is already fighting for something else entirely?
