Judy Abbott grows up in the John Grier orphanage with no parents and not much of a future. Then an essay she wrote lands in the hands of a wealthy man named John Smith, and just like that her life flips. He pays for her to attend a fancy school, no strings attached, except one: she has to write him a letter every single month. No replies, ever. She catches only a glimpse of him before he disappears, a tall shadow with long legs, so she starts calling him Daddy Long Legs and addressing her letters to that name. The school is a different planet. New friends, new rules, rooms that feel too big after years of crowded dormitories. She keeps her grades up, keeps her pen moving, and keeps wondering about the man behind the shadow. Then there is Jervis, and the way her feelings start pulling her in two directions at once.
