Akane Nishimura sits alone at her desk. Her classmates call her the Grim Reaper because of her heavy stare and quiet way, and they blame her for every bit of bad luck that lands on them. Nobody sits with her. Nobody talks to her. She has gotten used to eating lunch by herself while the whispers go around. Then a new kid walks into the classroom. Taiyou Takada hears the rumors about a girl with cursed powers and his eyes go wide. He thinks it is the coolest thing he has ever heard. So he marches straight up to the Grim Reaper, sits down next to her, and starts following her everywhere like a puppy. The rest of the class knows it is all a dumb game. Taiyou does not. He believes every word of it. Now Akane has a friend for the first time in her life, which is great, except that Taiyou's total cluelessness keeps dragging the two of them into one strange mess after another. She wants to protect him from the truth. He just wants to see some dark magic. How long can a friendship like that last before somebody finally tells him what the nickname really means?
