Hiroto Shinohara just wanted a normal first day at Academy Island, a school where everything runs on games and stars. Win more, climb higher. Seven stars means you own the place. Then he bumps into Sarasa Saionji, the reigning champion with six stars and a family name that runs the whole island, and somehow beats her. A kid with one star, taking down the untouchable empress. Everyone saw it happen. Nobody believes it. So he lies. Tells the entire school he's not a one star at all, he's a seven. It works, for about a minute. Now every student hungry for a rank wants a piece of him, and if anyone finds out the truth, he is gone. Off the island, out of the school, done. What keeps him breathing is a shadowy outfit called the Company, led by a girl named Shirayuki Himeji, who rigs his matches from behind the scenes so the fake seven star keeps winning. Every game he plays is a trap he has to survive. Every win digs the lie deeper. And somewhere underneath all of it, Hiroto is still chasing a missing girl from his past. How long can you keep bluffing when the whole island is watching your every move?
