Doppo Orochi takes his seat to watch the last fight of his karate school's youth tournament. One of his students, Atsushi Suedou, is up against a kid named Baki Hanma. A teenager who has been walking through the bracket like it is nothing. That gets Doppo's attention. So he and another disciple, Kiyosumi Katou, go looking for the boy in the Tokugawa underground ring, a hidden fight club where anything goes except weapons. They walk in and find out Baki's next opponent is Koushou Shinogi. A karate master with a nasty reputation and a move called Cord-Cutting that can end a man's career or his life. Doppo came to watch a promising kid. Now he is watching a boy step in against a killer. Baki doesn't back down. He keeps throwing himself at stronger fighters, hardening his fists and his nerve the hard way, carrying the Hanma bloodline into every bout. So why does a teenager keep climbing into a ring where grown men get torn apart?
