Annie needs one day off the books, and she will do anything to get it. So she goes to Hitch, who agrees to lie for her on one condition: Annie has to crack the missing person case Hitch never solved. A rich man's daughter named Carly walked out of her life and vanished into the Stohess underground, a place full of thugs and bad deals. One day. That's all Annie gets. Then the easy answers stop coming. A drug called coderoin is suddenly everywhere in the district, and every street corner she turns over leads back to Carly's father and the things he keeps buried. The deeper Annie digs, the less the case looks like a runaway and the more it looks like a trap with her name on it. Meanwhile Mikasa can't stop thinking about Eren, and the worry drags her backward through her own memories. Conversations with Armin, the fear she carried for her friends, the day she almost lost everything. But this time the memories twist into something else, a past she can reach out and touch, where some wounds close and others open no matter what she does. If she can't save the people she loves even inside her own head, what is she supposed to do when she wakes up?
