In the year 4999, war is a distant memory. When aliens invaded, humanity and the invaders settled things the only way that stuck: with sports. People won. A thousand years later, the solar system is colonized and athletics is everything. Akari Kanzaki arrives at the Orbital University with one goal, to become the next Cosmic Beauty, the title her mother once held. Then she meets her roommates. Anna and Chris are loud, weird, and exactly the kind of friends you keep. Also waiting are rivals who would rather see her fail, and a mountain of qualifying events that do not care about her famous last name. She trains. She stumbles. She gets back up. The path to the crown runs through every sport the university can throw at her. So can a girl chasing her mother's shadow really outrun everyone else, or is the title of Cosmic Beauty about to slip through her fingers?
